MA Minute #7 (Quote of The Day #51)

In a story entitled “Me And Jeet Kune Do”, written by JKD’s creator, Bruce Lee talks a little about his major in college. Just a fun little glimpse into the smaller areas of his life. The story was originally published in June 1972 in a Taiwanese newspaper.

Why Did I Study Philosophy?

“My majoring in philosophy was closely related to the pugnacity of my childhood. I often ask myself these questions: What comes after victory? Why do people value victory so much? What is ‘glory’? What kind of ‘victory’ is ‘glorious’? When my tutor assisted me in choosing my courses, he advised me to take up philosophy because of my inquisitiveness. He said, ‘philosophy will tell you what man lives for.'”

The rest of the article is a great read! I found it in a book entitled “Words of the Dragon: Interviews, 1958-1973”. If you’re a Bruce Lee fan, you need this book.
